YORK City Knights Ladies star Hollie Dodd was among the try-scorers as England Women beat France 36-10 at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Dodd scored the first of England’s seven tries when she broke through a gap 20m out from Georgia Roche’s short pass before dummying past the last defender to score next to the posts.

The 17th-minute score was Dodd’s third try in four matches for England following on from two scores in matches against Wales.

The back-rower was one of four York players to start in the win over France, with Grace Field and Olivia Wood, the latter making her home international debut, starting as England’s two prop forwards while Tara Stanley was deployed at full-back.

Stanley finished with four conversions and an assist, having set up Amy Hardcastle’s second try shortly after half time.

Hardcastle had earlier crossed on the half-hour mark shortly after Caitlin Beevers’ finish two minutes beforehand.

England went on to score thrice more after Hardcastle’s double was brought up, as Roche finished with a brace before Fran Goldthorp added a late seventh try.

France made the hosts work hard for the victory and scored once in each half during a competitive 80 minutes.

Christina Song Puche and Mailys Borak were the visitors’ try-scorers, with Elisa Ciria registering a sole conversion from the latter’s score.

York’s England quartet will be hoping to retain their places in the national side’s squad for the home World Cup which kicks off on November 1.

Meanwhile, former York City Knights second-row Joe Batchelor made his international debut as England beat the Combined Nations All Stars 18-4 at the Halliwell Jones.
