PADDY MCLAUGHLIN and Maxim Kouogun have signed contract extensions with York City to keep them at the club for the 2022/23 season.

McLaughlin and Kouogun were two of 12 players to be offered new deals by York following the club's Vanarama National League North promotion success and have now agreed to stay at City for their return to the National League.

The move means that McLaughlin will enter his seventh season with the Minstermen across two spells, having already racked up over 175 appearances for the club.

The Northern Irishman was a regular in York's successful play-off bid in a three-man central midfield trio, playing 41 times last term.

He also regularly captained the side during the back-end of the season after Sean Newton's departure on loan to Buxton and Matty Brown's demotion to the bench.

Kouogun meanwhile will enter his first full season with City, having joined in January from Shelbourne before quickly establishing himself as a first-choice centre back, featuring 26 times last season.

The pair's contract renewals take York up to three players in their 2022/23 squad, having already signed striker Scott Boden from Boreham Wood.

City remain in talks over deals for last season's players Scott Barrow, Olly Dyson, Jonny Haase, Maziar Kouhyar, Ryan Whitley and Akil Wright.

The Minstermen have also offered new contracts to past loanees Lenell John-Lewis, Mitch Hancox and Sam Sanders, who have been released by parent clubs Grimsby Town, Hereford and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Right-back Michael Duckworth has been invited back for pre-season training with John Askey's side.
