HALIFAX Panthers have leapfrogged York City Knights into third in the Betfred Championship after thrashing Dewsbury Rams 66-0.

Halifax overcame York 40-24 at the LNER Community Stadium less than a fortnight ago to move two points behind the Knights and they took full advantage of playing two days before their play-off rivals, who take on Sheffield Eagles tomorrow afternoon (3pm), at the Shay.

In a 13-try rout, the Panthers comprehensively dispatched a Dewsbury side who would fall into the relegation places should London Broncos win at Workington Town tomorrow (12.30pm).

Louis Jouffret, Greg Worthington, Zack McComb, Joe Keyes, Lachlan Walmsley and Ben Tibbs crossed for Halifax in the first half.

Walmsley, Tibbs, Keyes and Jouffret completed their braces in the second half while prop Daniel Murray grabbed a late double too. Ed Barber was also on the scoresheet.

Jouffret and Walmsley scored three and four conversions respectively.

York trail Halifax on only points difference (by 110), with a game in hand on the Panthers.
