YORK Acorn fell to successive defeats in the National Conference League premier division after losing 40-12 at home to Siddal.

York were essentially out of the game by half time as Siddal went into the break 24-0 up thanks to tries from Lewis Hosty, Oliver Waite, Gareth Nicholson and Edward Ainley.

The Halifax side moved further in front after the restart through Christian Ackroyd's score.

Acorn then finally got on the scoreboard when Jordan Potter crossed for the home side.

Siddal closed out a dominant 80 minutes with Henry Turner and Connor McCallum tries while Richard Pogson finished with six goals.

Clayton Shepherdson grabbed a late consolation try for Acorn, converted once again by Antony Chilton.

A ninth defeat in 11 league matches leaves York bottom of the NCL premier division, only a point adrift of nearest relegation-battling rivals Egremont Rangers.

Acorn's bid to move off the foot of the table does not get any easier as they travel to league leaders West Hull on Saturday, June 4 (2.30pm).

Meanwhile, in division two, Heworth moved up to second after coming from 18-6 down to beat second-from-bottom Dewsbury Celtic 54-18.

The victory sees Heworth now trail only table-toppers Barrow Island by a single point, with the Villagers still having the benefit of a game in hand.

However the win was far from easy as Dewsbury made a strong start, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes through Mike Foulstone and Harry Copley, both scores being converted by Charlie Heaton.

Liam Watling's excellent try, which George Elliott goaled, reduced the gap but it soon opened up again when Heaton converted his own score.

The Villagers rallied after the half-hour mark and would ultimately score 48 unanswered points.

Gareth Watson touched down Danny Allan's high kick before Watling dummied over, cutting the deficit to 18-14 at half time.

After the break, Ben Dyson-Dent went over from dummy half and allowed Jay Ogilvie to score his first of six successful goal attempts.

The floodgates were fully open as Liam Richmond charged through before Fergus Chapman took advantage of a towering Liam Jackson kick that Dewsbury allowed to bounce.

Elliott then claimed a try by profiting from a determined charge down from Leon Watkinson.

Three further tries followed in the final few minutes. Richmond and Chapman completed their braces before interchange Jack Earl capped the victory with a fabulous solo try.

Next up for Heworth is a trip to third-from-bottom Beverley on Saturday, June 4 (2.30pm).
