YORK City Knights Ladies kicked off their 2022 Betfred Women’s Super League with a comfortable 50-6 win away to Huddersfield Giants.

Last year’s BSWL Shield winners Huddersfield competed well with York in the first half, trailing just 14-6 at half time, as Frankie Townend went over amid Knights tries from Emma Kershaw (2) and Olivia Wood.

However Lindsay Anfield’s side showed the class that sees them possessing genuine ambitions of a maiden league title this year by scoring 36 unanswered second-half points.

England’s Hollie Dodd scored a quick-fire double before fellow internationals Grace Field and Bettie Lambert as well as team-mates Georgia Taylor and Olivia Whitehead claimed tries.

Tara Stanley finished with six goals while Whitehead converted her own score.

York take on reigning BSWL and Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup holders St Helens at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (12pm).
