JAMIE ELLIS and Will Oakes are set to miss a third straight York City Knights match through injury.

Ellis has not featured for York since hobbling off from last month's win over Widnes Vikings with a hamstring problem while Oakes last took to the field at London Broncos in March, where he suffered a groin injury.

Knights head coach James Ford confirmed that both players would miss Sunday's Betfred Championship match at home to Whitehaven (3pm).

"Jamie is progressing really well in his high-speed running," he said. "He did some on Sunday and Tuesday and he’ll do some more.

“And he’ll do some change of direction stuff on Friday or Sunday with a view to coming into team training on Tuesday and getting a full weeks of rugby reps into him.

“Touch wood he’ll be available for the Barrow game (on May 2).”

On Oakes, he added: "He had a scan last week but because of the Easter Bank Holidays we’re still waiting on (the results of) that.

“Hopefully we can get some intel either tonight (Thursday) or Friday. He can still some discomfort in his groin and we think it’s an abductor strain.

“But we don’t want him to do anything on it until we’ve got absolutely clarity on what it is.”

York remain without sidelined pair Brad Ward (concussion) and Ronan Michael (ankle). Ford also confirmed that loanee Levi Edwards is still with the Knights amid his injury-and-suspension-hit parent club Leeds Rhinos only being able to name a 20-man squad this week.
