CITY of York Under-10s Boys have been crowned as Yorkshire and North East In2 Hockey champions.

York comfortably progressed through their three group stage matches by scoring 12 goals without reply.

The competition began with a 2-0 win over Wakefield before seeing off Morpeth 3-0. York closed out the group phase with a 7-0 triumph over Ben Rhydding, thanks to goals from Jack Bennett (4), Oliver Wittwer-Moore (2) and Kai Navin.

City of York conceded their first goal of the tournament in the semi-final with Grimsby but eventually prevailed as 4-1 winners to set up a final with Sheffield.

The youngsters kept their composure in the competition's showpiece thanks to a 2-0 triumph over the South Yorkshire club.

The U10s competition victory sees them unbeaten from 35 matches this season, winning 30 and drawing five, scoring 110 and conceding just 10 in the process.

Next up for the junior club is a Yorkshire Youth Hockey League tournament on Sunday, April 24 as they seek to end the current campaign without suffering a defeat.

Elsewhere, City of York Men I ended a three-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Hallam II, in the former's penultimate Yorkshire and North East League premier division match of the season.

Sheffield made a strong start and went in front at half time after scoring from a short corner. However two quick-fire goals from York's Danny Ellwood secured the hosts the points.

Meanwhile, York X Badgers lost 4-1 to Ben Rhydding II, with Ernest Wordsworth scoring City's only goal.
