YORK City will play Bromley on Saturday (3pm) in the Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final.

Ahead of such a clash, we decided to take a look at the five most recent semi-finals that York have played in.

York City 3-2 Lincoln City

City’s most recent semi-final comes almost five years to the day before their upcoming clash with Bromley, the 2016/17 FA Trophy semi-final against Lincoln City.

The season as a whole was a catastrophe for York with Gary Mills’ return was unable to prevent York’s relegation to the Vanarama National League North.

In the FA Trophy, though, York were able to muster form, meeting and beating Lincoln in the semi-finals courtesy of a Scott Fenwick penalty in extra time.

City faced Macclesfield at Wembley in the resulting final, winning 3-2 and capturing silverware, although it failed to mask the dreadful league campaign.

York City 0-1 Fleetwood Town

In what is so far York’s latest taste of playoff football, City faced Fleetwood Town in the 2013/14 League Two playoffs.

After a truly terrible start to the campaign, placing as low as 23rd in the league at one point, Nigel Worthington’s men rallied in the second half of the season and finished the year in seventh, with the third best defence in the league.

City were unable to overcome Town in the two legs, losing 1-0 on aggregate after a loss at Bootham Crescent and a 0-0 draw in Fleetwood.

The Minstermen were unable to carry their momentum forward, much to their disbelief. Worthington resigned early in the 2014/15 season and new manager Russ Wilcox could only muster an 18th placed finish.

York City 2-1 Luton Town

The 2011/12 campaign saw Gary Mills’ City play two semi-finals in two separate competitions. The first was the FA Trophy semi-final against Luton Town.

City bested Solihull Moors, Salisbury, Ebbsfleet and Grimsby on their way to the final four of the competition and won the first leg against the Hatters 1-0 at Bootham Crescent through a Jamie Reed penalty, in a game that saw Luton reduced to nine men.

The second leg finished 1-1, but York’s efforts in the first leg meant that a draw was enough. They advanced to the final where, after beating Newport County 2-0, they won their first ever FA Trophy.

York City 2-1 Mansfield Town

The second of York’s two semi-finals in the 2011/12 campaign was the two legged play-off bout they shared with Mansfield Town.

City enjoyed a steady season domestically, one that saw them consistently nestled within the playoff places for the majority of the year.

Finishing fourth, over 6,000 fans gathered at Bootham Crescent to watch City and Town battle out a 1-1 draw.

In the second leg, a goal from Matthew Blair in extra time proved decisive and sent York through to the final with a 2-1 win on aggregate.

Similar to their triumph over Newport, City were once again victorious at Wembley, earning promotion to League Two.

York City 2-0 Luton Town

12 years ago now, Martin Foyle’s York City had a good season domestically. Whilst they struggled in cup competition, this allowed them to focus on a league in which they would finish fifth.

The Minstermen were drawn against Luton Town in the semi-finals of the Conference Premier play-offs.

York were at home for the first leg, a game they won 1-0 thanks to a 90th-minute winner from Richard Brodie.

At Kenilworth Road, York were again victorious, with Chris Carruthers’ goal giving York a 2-0 win on aggregate.

Much to their disappointment, City were unable to prevail in the resulting final, losing 3-1 to Oxford United.
