JOHN ASKEY hopes that York City can express themselves in Saturday's "one-off" Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final at Bromley (3pm).

York will seeking a fourth appearance at Wembley Stadium in 10 years with a victory over Bromley, who sit one tier and almost 20 places higher than City in the Vanarama National League.

City, who are seeking promotion from the Vanarama National League North, enter the match as underdogs although they head to South East London on a run of just one defeat in their last 14 matches.

While a return back to the top-flight of non-league football remains the top priority for manager Askey, there could scarcely be a greater secondary incentive than a trip to the national stadium.

“It does feel different," said Askey of York's training this week. "Having the chance to go to Wembley, that doesn’t come around very often. I think that everybody is buoyant and looking forward to Saturday.

“I think you always go to those (games) a little bit more relaxed because it is a one-off and the most important thing is the league.

“It gives us a little bit of freedom, I think, or at least it should do.

“I’m hoping that we’ve learnt from the last round and realised that when we played Dagenham, although Dagenham are a decent team, there was nothing to fear.

“It wasn’t until late on in the game that one or two started to realise that. Hopefully against Bromley we’ll express ourselves more but still get the result that we want.”

Askey confirmed that no fresh injuries have been sustained following York's 1-0 win over Leamington last weekend at the LNER Community Stadium.

The City boss will however be without a trio of cup tied players, with Lenell John-Lewis, Jack McKay and Maziar Kouhyar, who remains in wait of a Minstermen debut, all unavailable.

“We’re fortunate that, at this time of the year, we’ve pretty much got a clean bill of health," said Askey. "It’s nice to go into the game with everybody fit. They’re all really looking forward to it.”
