KURT WILLOUGHBY hopes that his match-winning free kick against Leamington will earn him a spot in the York City's semi-final starting 11 on Saturday.

Willoughby replaced Paddy McLaughlin at half time in the weekend's clash with Leamington and made an immediate on the left wing.

Having added more pace and directness on the flank, Willoughby capped his appearance off the bench with a stunning free kick on 65 minutes which ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The York number nine has started from the bench in City's last two matches and hopes that his most impact as a substitute will secure a promotion to a starting spot for Saturday's Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final at Bromley (3pm).

"I want to play every single minute of every single game that I can," Willoughby said.

"I don’t want to be on the bench and I don’t think any player would say that they like being on the bench.

“But all you can do is come on and make a difference, like I did. So we’ll see.”

After an upset win over Dagenham and Redbridge in the quarter-finals, York will again head to London as the outsiders.

Bromley are 10th in the Vanarama National League, the tier above City, who currently sit sixth in the Vanarama National League North.

“That can make you play better sometimes when you play with freedom and there’s less pressure on you," contended Willoughby.

“The pressure is on them and we’re going in as the underdogs.

“All the lads are looking forward to another trip down there and hopefully we can get the job done again and get to the final at Wembley.”
