FORMER York City Knights boss Richard Agar has stepped down as head coach of Leeds Rhinos with immediate effect.
Agar, who had been in the role since May 2019, will remain with the club but his assistant Jamie Jones-Buchanan will take charge of preparations for Saturday's Betfred Challenge Cup sixth-round tie against Castleford Tigers at Headingley.
Leeds have won just one of their opening six matches and Agar dropped hints after Friday's 26-12 defeat by Salford Red Devils to suggest that he was ready to stand down.
Agar was coach of York during the 2004 season, leading the Knights to second in the National League Two, the then-third tier, before suffering a defeat to Halifax in the play-offs.
