JOHN ASKEY insists that his York City side are not getting "too carried away" with their FA Trophy success as they return to league action tomorrow night.

York secured a spot in the FA Trophy semi-finals with a dramatic comeback penalty victory against Dagenham & Redbridge at the weekend to further raise spirits at the already in-form camp.

City resume their Vanarama National League North promotion push tomorrow evening (7.45pm), as they host Curzon Ashton, and interim manager Askey says that his squad will be settled again following the highs experienced in East London.

“It’s always a difficult one because you want everyone to realise that the league game is the most important thing," said Askey.

“But you also want them to enjoy it and not spoil the party too much.

"I’m sure they’ll go into this game now, as they have done the last few games, full of confidence and just thinking about winning.

“I’m sure they won’t have got too carried away by the result on Saturday.”

York head into Tuesday's match knowing that a victory would see them leapfrog Southport into sixth place and further solidify their play-off position.

The Minstermen will no doubt be tested though, with 10th-placed Curzon able to cut the gap between themselves and York to just a point with a win at the LNER Community Stadium.

Ashton have suffered just two defeats in their last eight matches, beating play-off contenders AFC Fylde and Hereford during that sequence.

“I watched them against Hereford and they beat them comfortably," said Askey. "They try and play football and if you allow them to do that, they can cause you all sorts of problems.

“They’re a tough team. But hopefully, with the form we’re in, if we can reproduce that, we can overcome teams like Curzon.”

While Curzon are generally noted as being one of the lowest-spending clubs in the National League North, Askey pointed out that, "they’re probably spending more than you think.”

Asked about the secret to their success, given their small crowds, the City boss replied: “I think location.

"Where they are, in the centre of Manchester, with so many clubs, it’s far easier than it is around the York area.

“They’ve not got as much pressure on them and they’re able to blood through young lads.

“When you say they’re on a relatively low budget, if you look at their infrastructure now, they’ve got a lot of clubs connected to them, in terms of academy teams.

“That brings in a lot of revenue and although you say they’ve not got much money, they’re probably spending more than you think."

City enter the clash in good shape on the injury front, with Askey reporting that Clayton Donaldson had trained on Monday after limping late on at Dagenham.

Central midfielder Paddy McLaughlin was rested for the Trophy match, the interim manager revealed.

Winger Remy Longdon continues to "get fully match fit", Askey said, after he came off the bench at the weekend.
