CITY of York Hockey Club's top Men's and Women's sides both recorded narrow victories for both their Men's and Women's top sides.

City of York Men I edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against Brigg I 4-3.

Brigg started strongly and they earned themselves an opener after 10 ten minutes from a successful counter attack after a York turnover.

Within a minute of the restart, York equalised with a goal from Jack Allerton.

Despite York seeing their goalkeeper yellow carded for a one-on-one challenge, the hosts managed to keep Brigg out for the next 10 minutes.

A minute before half time, York scored their second through Charlie Borwell after the initial short corner shot was well-saved.

Brigg drew level on 50 minutes, once again finishing off a thundering counter attack.

On the back of a short corner, York won a penalty flick which Danny Ellwood stepped up to convert.

A fourth York goal, which came courtesy of Alex Cockram, followed soon after.

One final counter attack saw Brigg reduce the deficit just before the final whistle blew.

Meanwhile, City of York Women I triumphed similarly slimly past Ben Rhydding II 2-1.

York made a bright start, showing some strong defence and pressing forward in attack, before a momentary lapse in concentration allowed Ben Rhydding to open the scoring.

The visitors remained unperturbed and, no more than two minutes later, Lucy Barker equalised from a well-worked attack.

Despite a number of brilliant forays forward, York could find their decisive second goal before the interval due to Ben Rhydding’s goalkeeper making some brilliant saves and clearances.

York eventually found a winner in the second period, with Heather Macdonald's strike earning the three points.

Elsewhere, City of York Men picked up just one other win, a 3-2 victory for the III outfit over Harrogate III.

York V and VI were beaten 4-2 by Slazengers II and Tadcaster Magnets I respectively.

York II, IV and VII went down to Leeds IV (3-1), Horncastle I (4-3) and Aire Valley II (5-1) respectively.

City of York Women were unable to record a win, other than their I side's success.

The IV and V teams each drew 1-1, to Acomb I and Harrogate V respectively, while York II lost 4-2 to Driffield I. York VI were thrashed 7-0 by Northallerton II.
