SELBY Town were denied all three points after an added time free-kick secured a 2-2 draw for Parkgate, writes Phil Dearnley.

Selby had overturned the visitors' early opener with goals in either half from Connor Qualter and Dan Davison and led the game heading into the dying stages.

Parkgate ensured that they would leave the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium with a point though as a 93rd-minute free-kick from Fred Tracey found the back of the net.

Although Town are now without a win in their last three matches, they remain fifth in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League division one, in the table's final play-off place.

As the match started, Selby seemed to be settling into the game well, however, they were soon rocked as Parkgate took an early lead.

Brandon Bagley collected the ball in the inside left channel, and was afforded far too much time, and space, to run at the defence, and cut inside.

Once in the centre of the goal, he had the time to blast an unstoppable shot past Tom Brown in the Selby net.

Selby did not learn their lesson as the number 11 was again given space to fire another shot at goal, which was not far wide.

Town needed to find a response, and this they certainly did. Harry Clapham’s work out wide set up a long range chance for Luke Sellers.

He cut inside, unleashing a right foot shot from all of 30 yards. With the goalkeeper beaten, the ball thundered back off the post.

The rebound fell to Dan Davison, following in at full tilt. Incredibly his effort hit the same post before rebounding to safety.

Eventually Selby found their deserved equaliser. A corner reached Qualter in the box, who was able to poke the ball home for his first goal in Selby colours, and indeed his first goal for seven years.

Before half time, Charlie Clamp fizzed a long-range shot wide before Liam Flanagan hit the side netting for the hosts.

After the break, Selby put themselves ahead. Flanagan made a run down the left and, using an overlapping run from Luke Sellers as a decoy, he cut inside before crossing into the box.

It looked like the Selby header had been smothered, but the ball bounced out to Davison who made no mistake from close range.

Parkgate soon began to dominate proceedings and forced goalscorer Qualter into a goal-line clearance.

At the other end, Flanagan saw a one-on-one effect wonderfully denied by the away keeper.

As the clock ticked down late on, Selby dropped deeper and deeper and managed to repel a series of corners.

They could not keep out one last set piece from Parkgate though as a crossed Tracey free-kick evaded everyone in the box and found its way into the far corner.
