NEWCASTLE Thunder have been confirmed as York City Knights' opponents for the 2022 Summer Bash.

The two sides will face off at Headingley Stadium on Sunday, July 31 (7.30pm) in the final match of the Betfred Championship event.

The Summer Bash returns to the division for the first time since 2019 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

This year's Bash will be the first outside Blackpool's Bloomfield Road, which had been the weekend's home since 2015.

Despite finishing 11th last year, Newcastle are being tipped to challenge for promotion this year after moving their playing squad to a full-time outfit.

During the off-season, they have signed a number of eye-catching recruits, including Brad Day, Gideon Boafo and Alex Foster.

Elsewhere at the Summer Bash, on Saturday there are four fixtures: Sheffield Eagles v London Broncos (12.45pm), Batley Bulldogs v Dewsbury Rams (3pm), Bradford Bulls v Halifax Panthers (5.15pm), Featherstone Rovers v Leigh Centurions (7.30pm).

Three matches will be held on Sunday: Barrow Raiders v Widnes Vikings (3pm), Whitehaven v Workington Town (5.15pm), York City Knights v Newcastle Thunder (7.30pm).
