WIGGINTON Grasshoppers edged a fiercely-contested local derby 2-1 with Haxby United in the Fastpack Ltd York League division one, writes Graham Ireton.

The hosts took the lead after thirteen minutes, when Jamie Willstrop latched onto a long clearance from the Haxby goalkeeper to fire the ball back into an empty net from all of 40 yards.

Wiggy tried to increase their lead but couldn’t gain a second breakthrough until five minutes before time when a hefty clearance from Tom Young was excellently controlled by Liam Robertson before being flicked over the onrushing Josh Archer and into the net.

The second period saw a different kind of game with several flash points between the teams which culminated in the dismissal of Robertson for a second yellow card.

By this point, Haxby were in the ascendency and gained a well-deserved goal when Kris Robertshaw fired home.

Further late pressure from the visitors couldn’t gain their desired result as Wiggy clung on for the points at the final whistle.

Bramham upset the form book, defeating Malt Shovel 2-1 at Freely Lane.

Shovel had started the day in third place and had been in fine form but were sunk by two goals from Josh Wilson.

The Nag’s Head enjoyed a 4-1 success over Pollington Predators moving up to fifth spot in the process.

Division two leaders FC Dracula looked to be on course for another victory, leading 1-0 at half time via a Gheorghe Majare goal.

However, Heworth Inn had other ideas and a Richard Bedingham goal levelled the matter before Kieran Harris fired a late brace to award Heworth the points from a 3-1 triumph.

Liam Edmondson bagged five goals as K-Town romped to an 8-3 win over FC Pollington.

The Knaresborough side’s other goals came from Hamish Henderson, Jamira Adams and Ollie Coates.

York Medics maintained third-place with a 4-0 success at Selby Olympia.

William Quinn, Khaled Shahein, Lauend Brouska and Robbie Britland collected the goals.

Cameron Edmondson (2), Oliver Kilvington and Lewis Inkster fired Strensall Tigers to a 4-1 victory over Thorpe United Blue, for whom Corey Littlefield and Steve Short found the target.

Casey Barkey netted twice for Rawcliffe United but could not prevent his side slumping to a 3-2 home loss to Eggborough.
