YORK City secured their place in the last 16 of the Buildbase FA Trophy thanks to a 1-0 victory over Slough Town at the weekend.

Here are five talking points from the cup tie.

1. Another clean sheet under John Askey

A remarkable statistic surfaced on social media after York's victory over Slough.

YCFC Stats tweeted that City have now recorded five clean sheets from interim manager Askey's first eight games in charge, as many as the team managed from 18 previous matches this season under former boss Steve Watson.

While the likes of Blyth Spartans, Guiseley and Matlock Town are hardly frightening opposition, you can only beat whoever is in front of you.

Given that the back four has constantly changed during that spell too, credit has to be given to Askey for hardening York's defence.

2. Impressive debut from Maxim Kouogun

At the heart of York's strong defence was debutant Kouogun, who looked at home on his City bow.

The centre back made a casual goalline clearance and shrugged off Slough's Alfonso Tesconi in the box in the first half before dealing convincingly with Town's multiple crosses in the latter period.

The suspended Matty Brown is due to return next week but may find it tough to replace Kouogun.

3. How sustainable are 1-0 victories?

First-team coach Kingsley James has pretty bullish in responding to a suggestion from the media that York will eventually be caught out if they continue to struggle to score more than once in matches.

While, as aforementioned, City have been sturdy at the back under Askey, they have yet to find the back of the net twice in a game under the interim boss.

While James has disagree with this assertion, it seems unviable that such a low-scoring attack can continue to win, particularly when coming up against the likes of Kidderminster Harriers and Gateshead, both of whom are in the Vanarama National League North play-offs, who City play later this month.

4. York were down to the bare bones

To a certain degree, it is fair to excuse City's struggling frontline, given that it was a completely new trio from the side which beat Alfreton last time out.

York were without Jack McKay (cup tied), Remy Longdon, Scott Barrow (coronavirus) and Matty Brown (suspension) while Michael Woods and Josh King remain sidelined.

The former quartet should be available for Kidderminster and hopefully coach James is not needed to named as a substitute again.

5. Plenty of minutes under Olly Dyson's belt

Having been absent since early November with compartment syndrome, the return of Dyson was a welcome sight.

The winger got through 87 minutes against Slough although whether he can stay in the side when McKay and Longdon return remains to be seen.
