YORK Acorn progressed into the second round of the Betfred Challenge Cup after coming from behind to win 38-24 away at Edinburgh Eagles.

Featuring for the first time this year, pre-match favourites Acorn fell 18-16 behind midway through the second half in the Scottish capital.

The National Conference League premier division outfit rallied though to score a further 22 points in the final quarter, conceding just once in the process.

Former York City Knights full-back Ash Robson was among the Acorn try-scorers, with ex-Knights trialist Lewis Brown also crossing.

Trixia Aquino, Adam Speck, Stuart Garrington, Terry Parker and Reece Arthur were also on the scoresheet.

Half-back Antony Chilton added five goals from the kicking tee.

Edinburgh, who have not featured in the competition’s second round since 2010, finished the 80 minutes with four tries, scored by Roserutabua Tawanayavulala, Orisi Waitbuta, Mikey Mair and Dakui Dakuidreketi.

The Eagles’ Alex Williams converted all four efforts.
