YORK & District Under-14 Schoolboys cruised through to the next knock-out round of the English Schools' FA Inter-District Cup with a 7-2 win over Hull.

Ben Farrar scored four goals as York recovered from an early setback, with Louie McGurrin adding a brace and Oliver Williams a single goal to set up a clash with Barnsley on January 29.

Hull got off to an ideal start, taking the lead within the first five minutes after being awarded a free kick 25 yards out. It was struck near enough perfectly and the ball nestled in the net.

York re-grouped and the character kicked in, the midfield engine room of Noah Ward, Jamie Kay, Alex Steel and Williams bossing the centre of park and setting the tempo.

The pressure told and York were soon level with McGurrin picking up a loose ball 20 yards out and hitting a sweet left-footer which crashed into the into the roof of the net.

York were now playing some fast, flowing football with the wide players of Todd Fella and Danny Nicholson causing havoc on the wings.

Farrar soon had York in the lead. He stole the ball in the penalty area and fired through the keepers’ legs to make it 2-1.

York’s third came from Williams, who again picked the ball up on the edge of the box and fired the ball over the stranded Hull keeper.

The fourth came from a pinpoint cross delivered by James Borlase, the ball finding the head of Farrar, who calmly nodded it in to make it 4-1.

Just before half-time, York made it 5-1 with Farrar securing his hat-trick goal.

The second half got underway with York stamping their authority back on the game - and this soon told with York scoring their sixth and McGurrin securing his second goal of the match.

Hull showed great spirit and kept fighting to get behind York’s defence of Christian Pala, Mitch Barson and Aidan Fewlass and test Henry Coy in the York net.

And Hull did get a thoroughly deserved second before York finished the game off with Farrar scoring his fourth.
