YORK City boss John Askey will be looking for a new loan destination for Reon Potts and Archie Whitfield following their return from Ossett United.

The City pair were sent out in the summer to Step 4 outfit Ossett, where they have both impressed, and got a chance to feature against their parent club in pre-season.

New Ossett boss Jas Colliver said it was a tough decision not to extend the loan of Whitfield and said he had been “superb in what I’ve seen of him”.

The pair are still young, with former City youth-team captain Whitfield 20 years of age and ex-Scunthorpe United striker Potts 21, and Askey believes with a bit of maturing, they could be looking at making the step up next year.

“Ideally we’d look to get them out on loan again,” the interim manager said.

“At the moment, I think they’re not ready, so if we can get them out on loan and try to improve them, then probably next year, they’ll be ready to go.”
