FORMER York City Knights head coach Gary Thornton has joined Rochdale Hornets as assistant coach.
Prior to joining the League One outfit, Thornton was most recently at Hunslet
And having won the Coach of the Year award at three different clubs, his pedigree is something that excites Rochdale head coach Matt Calland.
“Gary brings great experience as a player and a coach. I am looking forward to working together to help the team progress from where we left off last season,” Calland said.
Chairman Andy Mazey following a lengthy recruitment process is also excited for Thornton to get started.
“Gary’s enthusiasm to return to the game and be a part of this exciting project at Rochdale Hornets was apparent throughout talks with both Matt and myself," Mazey said.
“As a former Championship and League One Head Coach of the Year, Gary brings a wealth of coaching experience but, more importantly, will have Matt's back as they work closely to improve all aspects of performance."
