YORK City Knights have brought in former Hull KR Academy back Bradley Ward on trial.

Ward, who was born in York, began his rugby league career with Heworth ARLFC and played alongside current Knights first-teamers Myles Harrison, AJ Towse and Toby Warren at the Villagers.

The winger or centre went on to join Betfred Super League club Hull KR but has now linked up with York on a trial basis.

“Brad was in the same Heworth team and Excel programme as Myles, AJ and Toby, and I wanted to bring Brad in alongside those guys," said head coach James Ford.

“But Brad had the opportunity to play with the Hull KR Academy and it hasn’t quite worked out for him there.

“I do think he’s got potential but, in my opinion, Myles, AJ and Toby, are a little bit in front of where he is at the minute.

“He’s clearly very tough. He was brave enough to stand in front of Pauli Pauli at full tilt, which I’m not sure I’d fancy doing,” Ford laughed.

“He’s a good athlete so we want to work with him and see where he gets to.

“He will play against Midlands Hurricanes. If he’s fit and everything being fair, he’ll get at least half a game against the Hurricanes.”
