YORK City's North Riding County FA Senior Cup second round game at Whitby Town tomorrow night has been called off.

Whitby instead hope to host a swiftly rearranged FA Trophy tie, which was postponed from Saturday because of a damaged floodlight pylon.

This was to be the first Senior Cup tie for either side since January 28 of last year, when City beat the Seasiders on penalties in the quarter-finals before pulling out at the semi-final stage, which had been pushed back to August.

Last season's edition of the competition was cancelled in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The two will have to wait a little longer yet to feature in the North Riding FA's flagship cup competition, which usually provides a useful run-out for younger players and those on the edges of the first team.

Whitby confirmed the postponement on Monday. If they can complete the works on the pylon - which was damaged in the high winds of Saturday morning - in time, they will welcome Nantwich Town tomorrow evening in the hope of joining City in the FA Trophy third round.
