CITY of York Athletic Club had six teams in action at the National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield on a surprisingly dry course that suited middle distance track and shorter distance road runners.

The club’s senior women’s team came 15th which was another strong showing from the squad following on from their good finishes in the road relays.

Katy Wood again ran a tidy opening stage to cover the 3k leg in 10 minutes and five seconds as she came in 13th.

The club dropped back on the second leg to 23rd, before Charlotte Mason ran a strong anchor leg in 10 minutes and 38 seconds to bring the club home in 15th.

The senior men’s team finished one place higher in their last outing two years ago, placed in 31st.

Angus McMillan ran another good opening leg to come seventh on that section as he covered the 5k course in 15 minutes and 25 seconds.

Club stalwarts Alex Dickinson (17 minutes and six seconds), James Tucker (17 minutes and 36 seconds) and Tim Stratton (17 minutes and 14 seconds) all ran well to bring the club home just outside the top 30.

City of York's under-15 girls team came 56th, a lowly standing due to them being without all the runners who took the silver medals in the Northern Cross Country Relays at Sheffield two weeks ago.

The under-13 girls age group was the only one in which the club fielded two teams.

The 'A' team claimed a top 20 finish, after placing in 19th and the 'B' team came just inside in the top 50, finishing 48th.

There was confusion at the first changeover which also cost the 'B' team several places.

The under-13 boys finished in 24th with the stand-out Daniel Campbell running well to come fourth on the first leg as he covered the 2k leg in 6 minutes and 59 seconds.
