WEMBLEY try-scorer Jason Bass has left York City Knights for Betfred Championship rivals Sheffield Eagles.

Outside back Bass scored 13 tries in 47 appearances for the Knights after joining in 2019, including one in York's 1895 Cup final defeat to Featherstone Rovers at the national stadium in July.

He has signed a one-year deal with Sheffield, who finished three places below ninth-placed York last season.

The Knights said on Twitter: "Best of luck to Wembley try-scorer Jason Bass, who departs the Knights for Sheffield Eagles.

"All the best for the future, Jason."

Sheffield coach Mark Aston said: “I have been impressed when he’s played against us and when I’ve watched his games back.

"He has been with a big club, that is what York are, and he comes to us wanting to become a starter.

“He has a good personality and he fits the bill regarding the hard-working culture that we want around the place.”

Bass added: “Coming from Leicester, Sheffield is the closest club to me, I’m excited to be at the Eagles.

“It’s got a great history, and I can't wait for the challenge.”
