JOSH BRAMLEY and Martin Lowe maintained their unbeaten records in the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League after a 9-1 victory for York RI ‘A’ over Topspin ‘B’, writes David Quinlan.

Alfie Potter and Graham Hatfield were on top form as Clarence ‘B’ smashed Bootham 9-1.

Aidan Ranftler was untroubled as Clarence ‘A’ beat York RI ‘B’ 8-2 with Richard Crowther recording the two wins for Railway.

Division two leaders York RI ‘C’ beat Strensall 9-1 with Mike Kwan and Mike Robinson undefeated.

The Villagers’ first point of the season was secured by Dave Hough who after winning the first two games then had to recover from two match points down in the fifth game to defeat Dave Quinlan.

To add insult to injury, Hough achieved this using a bat he had borrowed from Quinlan as he had forgotten to bring his own.

John Flintoft and Barbara Kearney excelled as Ryedale ‘A’ beat York RI ‘D’ 8-2 while Shepherds ‘A’ beat Clarence ‘C’ 7-3 thanks to three wins apiece from Ian Williams and Will Beedham.

A maximum from Tom Thorp allowed Shiyi Ling ‘C’ to snatch a draw in a close encounter with their ‘D’ team.

In the third division, an unbeaten effort from Jan Suchecki made the difference as BT prevailed 6-4 against Clarence ‘E’.

Meanwhile, Rich Bayliss starred for high flying Wigginton ‘B’ as they secured a comfortable 8-2 victory over Clarence ‘D’.

Dylan Pottage has had a fine start to the season and his treble proved decisive in a 6-4 victory for Wigginton ‘D’ over Shiyi Ling ‘E’.

In division four, Rob Cowling was unbeaten as University ‘C’ beat Clarence ‘G’ 6-4.

Elsewhere, three wins from Nigel Baker was the highlight as Shepherds ‘C’ shared the spoils with Topspin ‘C’ in a 5-5 draw.

A depleted York RI ‘E’ went down 6-4 to Clarence ‘F’.
