CITY of York Athletic Club had a successful day at the North of England Cross Country Relays, which were held at Graves Park in Sheffield.

The club's Under-15s girls team placed second, primarily thanks to the work of Lottie Langan.

She ran a strong opening leg to finish in second in a time of seven minutes and 24 seconds for the 2km leg.

Langan’s time was the second fastest of the day.

Although a very impressive Rotherham Harriers team went past on the second leg to win the event, stellar efforts from Sophie Robertson-Dover and Katrina Savkovic ensured the club took home the silver medals.

The club had teams in both Under-13s races, with the boys team narrowly missing out on a medal, placing in fourth, while the girls' team ranked seventh.

Angus McMillan continued his great form in the senior men’s relay by leading the field on the first leg as he covered the two-mile circuit in a time of nine minutes and 50 seconds.

McMillan’s time turned out to be the fastest leg of the day.

Alex Dickinson then ran strongly to keep the club in second spot on the second leg.

Mark Cage and Tim Stratton then brought the club home to finish in fifth position.

Meanwhile, in road running, Katy Wood broke City of York's 10k road record with a time of 35 minutes and seven seconds in the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash.

In the same race, which encompassed the scenery of Kirkstall Abbey, Charlotte Mason was closely behind in a time of 35 minutes and 43 seconds and Karen Wood posted 46 minutes and 13 seconds.

In the 5k event at the University of York Cycle Circuit, City of York's Ben Thompson posted a time of 17 minutes and 55 seconds.

Following him to the finishing line was Ed Mezzetti, who was home in 18 minutes and six seconds and Miles Watson, who crossed in 18 minutes and 36 seconds.
