FORMER Hull FC forward Masi Matongo has joined York City Knights on a one-year deal for the 2022 season.

Matongo has made over 50 appearances in the Betfred Super League for Hull FC since debuting for the club in 2015.

The 25-year-old also has past international experience having previously been named in the England Knights performance squad.

The prop will add considerable size to York's front row following the departures of middles James Green and Jordan Baldwinson.

Knights head coach James Ford said: “Masi has shown in his early career he has outstanding potential.

“He’s a big strong player who will help us win control defensively and I’m very confident I can help his attacking game and get him playing above his previous levels.”

On joining the club, Matongo said: “I’m really happy to have joined the club.

"A lot of great players have played for York and I’ve heard great things about Fordy as a coach.

“There’s a lot of ambition here with what we’re striving to achieve and I’m happy to be part of those plans.

“It’ll be a good challenge for me with a new coach again and a new club.”
