CITY of York Hockey Club Men I were beaten at home to Stockton I in a 14-goal thriller, writes Clive Marshall.

The hosts started poorly and conceded three times before managing to claw their way back onto level terms.

After Stockton snuck a goal prior to half-time, the two sides exchanged goals to leave the score at 5-6.

At that point, the visitors pulled clear, scoring thrice more before the finish in a 9-5 win.

Alex Cockram bagged four goals for York and Jamie Clarke was also on the scoresheet.

City of York II were thrashed 5-0 at Driffield I while the III side lost 2-1 at home to Hull University.

Ramgarhia I held City of York IV to a 1-1 draw.

The club's V outfit were one of only three winning York men's sides, as they triumphed 2-1 at Leeds VI.

City of York VI and VIII also defeated Leeds VII (1-0) and Scarborough II (4-3) respectively.

Leeds Adel thrashed City of York II 11-0 while York Badgers lost 4-2 at Ben Rhydding.

City of York Ladies I, like their first-team male counterparts, were also beaten by four goals, in a 5-1 loss at Lindum I.

Both were strong from the off, setting a high intensity which Lindum profited from by catching York on the counter for their opener.

York remained strong and determined, winning a series of short corners.

Laura Horne managed to net one of the short corners which was unfortunately disallowed.

The visitors eventually equalised through Lily Rowntree, who saw a shot crept over the goal-line.

But, similarly to their first, Lindum twice caught York on the break to go 3-1 ahead.

York remained in the contest until a quick-fire double ensured a Lindum win.

City of York II and VI were the sole victorious Ladies' sides. The former won 1-0 at home to Harrogate II while the latter had a 5-0 success over Harrogate VI.

Skipton I (2-0) and Leeds University III (2-1) edged past City of York's III and IV teams respectively.

There were big defeats for City York V, losing 5-1 at Scarborough II, and City of York VII, beaten 6-0 against Thirsk.

Meanwhile, Acomb Men suffered a 5-1 defeat at Leeds University.

Jonny Brown was the visitors' scorer after their youthful opponents had racked up four goals in the first half.

The men’s side against Scarborough III has been postponed to next weekend.

Acomb Women won for the first time on the road at fourth-placed Airedale in the Moor and Dale League division two.

Newcomer Natasha Wisniewska bagged a double in the 2-1 victory.

Both Acomb sides are in a designated week off this weekend.
