WILL OAKES has returned to York City Knights Dewsbury Rams for the 2022 season.

Oakes has had two previous dual registration/loan spells at York from Hull KR, scoring 14 tries in 24 matches, but he is now a permanent member of James Ford’s squad.

After two seasons at Dewsbury, the 22-year-old arrives with further Betfred Championship experience under his belt and hopes a strong season at York will see him named in Scotland’s World Cup squad.

He has already won five caps for the Bravehearts and is in Sunday’s squad for the match with Jamaica.

Knights head coach James Ford said: “Will is still a very young man with lots of room for growth.

“He’s already played Super league with Hull KR and is very keen to get back to those levels and beyond.

“Will is a very strong ball carrier and showed in his previous stint with the club that he is a top-class finisher.”

Oakes is the third winger in the Knights’ 2022 squad, alongside Joe Brown and AJ Towse.

The futures of outside backs Jason Bass, Kieran Dixon and Ben Jones-Bishop have yet to be revealed, while Perry Whiteley has joined Batley Bulldogs.
