YORK City Knights have added to their hooking options for next year by signing Sam Davis from London Broncos on a one-year deal.

A Broncos academy product, 22-year-old Davis arrives as the second hooker signed for 2022, following on from the re-signing of Will Jubb.

He is looking to build on a 2021 campaign in which he made eight appearances for London, including against the Knights in the Challenge Cup in March, before his season was ended by injury in July.

Knights head coach Ford said: “I’m delighted to sign Sam. He is a tenacious hooker who will provide energy and effort in abundance.

"He will add a huge amount of competitive spirit to our middle unit.”

Hooker Davis added: “I’m buzzing. It’s a club that I’ve had my eye on for a few years with Fordy as the coach and with the facilities they’ve got. The general direction the club is looking to head is something I want to be a part of and, hopefully, I can be part of the reason we move forward.

“Having spoken to Fordy, he’s really impressed with the work Jamie Langley and Danny Ward have done with me down in London and he’s excited to coach me, make me progress and give me a few more skills and assets.

“It’s a good opportunity and one I’m really looking forward to."

On what fans can expect to see from him next year, Davis said: “I work hard, I make a lot of tackles and give everything for the team. I’ve got a running game, I love to make metres but I can also find a pass. I’m looking to work on my deception this year and really bring that into my game."

Davis is moving from being full-time with London to part-time with York. The brother of Warrington Wolves’ Matt, Davis said: “I’m looking to get involved with some community coaching and develop that side of my career as coaching is definitely something I’m looking at going into in the future.

“I’ll be trying to be a part of York both on and off the field.”
