YORK City Knights Ladies star Bettie Lambert has been called up to Ireland's 19-player squad which will face Wales this weekend.

The centre has been part of a successful season at York, appearing in the Betfred Challenge Cup final defeat to eventual treble winners St Helens and in the team's run to the Betfred Women's Super League play-off semi-finals last month.

Lambert, who qualifies for the nation through her grandfather, will now wear the green of Ireland this Sunday in the visit to Colwyn Bay's Stadiwm Zip World (2.30pm).

The team coached by John Whalley will face the Welsh in what will be their inaugural international test match.
