CITY of York Hockey Club Men I are off the mark in Yorkshire & North East League premier division with a 4-0 win over Chesterfield I.

After their 5-1 opening-day defeat, York looked keen to register a good win - and that they did, courtesy of Alex Cockram’s double allied to goals from Jamie Clarke and Charlie Borwell.

Hosts York had Chesterfield pressed in their own half for much of the first period and led through Cockram’s reverse-stick finish at the break.

Second-half goals from York, who came out strongly, put the gloss on the result.

City Men II lost 3-2 at Harrogate III in division one Yorkshire, in which City Men III beat Huddersfield Dragons I 1-0 thanks to JJ Owen’s strike.

It was very much a game of two halves for City Men IV, who drew 2-2 at Boston Spa I after dominating the first half but ended up grabbing a point in division two Yorkshire. Chris Dutton and Harvey Ake scored.

John Barrett scored as City Men V lost 3-1 at Leeds University I in division one moor & dale.

Acomb I beat Bradford II in division one moor & dale.

Henry Cadogan was on the scoresheet for City Men VI in their 4-1 home defeat to Slazengers III in division two moor & dale.

Table-mates City Men VII got their first three points of the season, winning 6-1 at Harrogate V. Hat-trick hero Tolly Proctor was supported by Ian Graham, Nathan Ridsdale and Joel Pearce.

City Men IX lost 4-0 at home to cross-city rivals Acomb II in division one moor.

City of York Ladies I lost 3-2 at home to Durham University III in a closely-fought women’s premier division encounter.

Ali Couttie and Heather MacDonald goals put York ahead but Durham turned it around, despite player-of-the-match goalkeeper Charlotte Neal’s efforts.

City Ladies II lost 2-0 at Kingston-upon-Hull I in division one Yorkshire.

City Ladies III sit second in division one moor & dale after demolishing Aire Valley I 8-0. Liz Armitage (4), Molly Ake (2), Kelly Hunter and Annabel Howells-Lee netted.

Rachel Hildreth scored a brace to make sure City Ladies IV had a good win over Aire Valley II. Will Linden and Chloe Robinson added in a 4-0 division two moor & dale victory.

Holly Clayden got the sole City Ladies V goal in her side’s 2-1 defeat at North Yorkshire rivals and division one moor leaders Pickering I.

Table-mates City Ladies VI lost 8-0 at home to Selby.

City of York juniors started their England Hockey Championships campaign with a bang.

Under-14 Girls ‘A’ beat visitors Hull 10-0 with Isabelle Hughes (2), Chloe Robinson, Maisy Booth, Orla Sanderson (2), Cora Seth, Francesca Benson and Jemima Councell (2) scoring.

U14 Girls ‘B’ lost 3-0 at home to Stokesley.

U14 Boys ‘A’ beat Doncaster 12-0 thanks to goals from Aidan Gaunt-Edwards (8), Noah Rothwell (2), Rohan Korolkoweicz and Cameron McIntosh.

U14 Boys ‘B’ had their match converted to a nine-a-side friendly against Covid-hit Leeds. York won 4-2.

U16 Girls ‘A’ won 9-0 at Thirsk.

U16 Boys ‘A’ won 4-1 at home to Hull with Jamie Clarke, Ptolomey Procter, Thomas Gilbert and Rufus Wordsworth on target.

U18 Boys lost 1-0 at Ben Rhydding.
