YORK City Ladies are through to the third round qualifying of the Women’s FA Cup after thumping Brighouse Sports 9-2 at home.

Sophie Tinson will want to claim a hat-trick for her part in the victory, and her efforts were added to by Milly Ash, Karli Smith, Shannon Durkin, Rebecca Fevers, Holly Findlay and Emma Hallowell.

But the Minster-belles did not have it all their own way as the West Yorkshire visitors had taken a two-goal lead by the midway point of the first half.

Ash got one back for City in the 28th minute, turning home Tinson’s delivery, before Smith sent the hosts in level at the break.

Tinson turned in Fevers’ looping effort which hit the crossbar in the 50th minute and followed it up with a 56th-minute penalty.

Ten minutes on, Jo Symington headed goalwards with Tinson possibly getting the final touch.

Durkin and Fevers fired in within five minutes of each other going in to the final quarter of an hour, with Findlay and Hallowell putting the icing on the cake in the last five minutes.

City host Newcastle United in the next round.
