YORK City Academy continued their FA Youth Cup journey on Wednesday with a 1-0 second round qualifying win at Bradford (Park Avenue).
City, featuring the threatening stand-out right winger Kyle Lancaster, had much the better of the chances.
In the end, it was a thrilling couple of minutes that ensured it was the young Minstermen’s night at the Horsfall, where first-team boss Steve Watson was in attendance.
Jonny Shepherd netted the sole goal in the 66th minute with a turn and left-footed finish into the bottom-left corner.
A minute after the heroics at one end, it was City keeper Michael Hogan’s turn to distinguish himself at the back when the Minstermen gave away a penalty. The York shot-stopper got down low to his right to turn away the effort.
In the third round qualifying, City will travel to either South Shields or Stockton Town.
