YORK City Knights have retained star man Will Jubb after the hooker signed a new one-year deal with the club for the 2022 season.

Jubb has been a near ever-present for the Knights since joining the club on dual registration during the 2017 season from Hull KR, a move which was quickly turned into a permanent one.

The 25-year-old has been a key part of James Ford’s squad which won the Betfred League One title in 2018 and earned a third-placed finish in the Betfred Championship the following season.

Jubb remained a regular under head coach Ford this year, missing just two matches all season as he closes in on a century of appearances for the club, with 91 currently to his name.

As one of the longest-serving players in the Knights squad, Jubb will be hoping to inspire a return to the play-offs in 2022 as York missed out, finishing ninth, this year.

“I’m really pleased to retain Will,” said Ford.

“He’s been very consistent throughout this season, both in attack and defence, and he brings a lot to the group off the field in terms of how he drives and upholds standards in training.

“I’m pleased that he’s still really keen to add things to his game and I’m looking forward to working with him more over the coming season.

Jubb added: “I absolutely love it at York and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.

“This club means a lot to me now so I’m really happy to be staying.

“2021 has been a challenging year with things on the pitch and completing my PhD, so I’m really looking forward to getting some sense of normality back next year and focussing on a great 2022.”

Jubb is the sixth Knights player to have committed his future to the club, with several more retention and recruitment announcements likely to be made in the comings weeks.

Currently, the club have announced the signing of winger Joe Brown from Championship rivals Bradford Bulls and secured the futures of KSS’ 2021 Player of the Season Matty Marsh as well as teenage trio Myles Harrison, AJ Towse and Toby Warren until the end of the 2023 season.
