YORK City have to be pleased with their win at Darlington, says Steve Watson - but there is still more to come, the manager insists.

Clayton Donaldson scored his second consecutive double to seal a 2-1 win at Blackwell Meadows for City, who are continuing their climb up the National League North table.

Darlington started the feisty contest on top but City looked nicely settled into the game by the 20-minute mark and went ahead from a corner.

Then, in a mad 10 minutes, Darlington had a man shown a straight red and gave away a clear penalty, which Donaldson netted in audacious style.

City looked very much in the driving seat as the sides came out for the second half but a scrappy Luke Charman goal seemed to rattle the visitors.

After an edgy 45, and a couple of minutes keeping the ball up by the attacking corner, York saw the game out.

"I thought we started a little bit slowly without the ball but became dominant with the amount of chances we had," Watson said.

"In the first half, we had some great switches of play. From Sam (Fielding), it was an unbelievable cross-field pass, great first touch (from Donaldson) and just missed the target.

"If that goes in, you go in at half-time 3-0 and you maybe get a chance second half to use some lads you want to get on the pitch.

"But, as has happened so far this season, we didn't have that luxury. They went direct and were hard to beat.

"The goal against is one of the worst goals you'll ever see.

"I've just said to the lads that the taking of responsibility, the sensing of danger has to be a lot better.

"That's the point where we're on the back foot a little bit.

"We still had five or six chances to kill the game off but you never really want to see teams slowing balls down in the corner with a minute to go.

"But the top and bottom of it is that's four straight wins after a tough start to the season and we've got to be very happy.

"We've scored 10 goals in four games. The strikers are scoring - again, you've got to be happy.

"But there's more to come from us. We've just got to keep that run going."

Fielding "probably should have gone off" at half-time with an ankle problem, Watson said. He was replaced by Kurt Willoughby with just over 20 minutes remaining.
