ACOMB Hockey Club did not get their season off to the start they will have wanted, all three sides going down to defeats.

It has been more than 300 days without competitive action for Acomb Men I, who got back on the pitch with a 4-1 defeat at home against Leeds Adel III in the newly-formed Yorkshire & North East League moor & dale division one.

The Tangerines were missing several regular players and were under pressure from their visitors right from the start.

However, within five minutes, the tangerines took the lead when Jonny Brown found Neil Hutchings, who reverse-swept the ball past the visiting keeper.

The Tangerine defence kept the visitors at bay until 10 minutes from the end of the first half when Leeds equalised from a penalty corner.

Despite a promising first half, the second period was quite a bit of one-way traffic for Adel, who struck three times from close range.

Acomb Men II were defeat 8-0 at Thirsk II in the Yorkshire & North East League moor division.

They came under pressure from a youthful side and even the heroics of keeper Mike Brown were not enough to prevent a heavy defeat.

Acomb Ladies lost 3-1 to Scarborough I in Yorkshire & North East Ladies League moor & dale division two.

Chloe Williams got the consolation for the Tangerines, who lost Becci Flower-Brown to a facial injury.
