GEORGE DAVEY will make his long-awaited return to the ring in front of fans at the Birmingham Arena on October 9.

Davey is set for another six-round contest on another major bill which will be televised live on BT Sport.

The 23-year-old has four wins from as many professional fights since making the move into the paid ranks less than two years ago.

In his last fight, Davey defeated Stoke’s Jamie Stewart via a comfortable points decision at York Hall

That fight, as well as last year’s win over Blackpool’s Jeff Thomas, took place behind closed doors amid the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

Coincidentally, Davey’s last fight with a crowd in attendance was at the Birmingham Arena when he overcame Dale Arrowsmith in November 2019.

It is not yet known who Davey will box in Birmingham though he will again compete over six rounds, as he did for the first time against Stewart.

The card, promoted by Davey’s Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren, is topped by the European, British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight title between Brad Foster and Jason Cunningham.

Champion Ekow Essuman and challenger Danny Ball also face off for the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles.

WBO Global light heavyweight champion Callum Johnson and unbeaten prospects Liam Davies, Nick Ball, Owen Cooper, Amaar Akbar, Ryan Woolridge also feature on the undercard, as does debutant Macauley Owen.

Elsewhere, four of Davey’s gym-mates, John Patrick Harker, Hughie Wilson, Rafal Benka and Rob Magill will feature on next month’s bill at the Oldham Leisure Centre.

The five-some are all trained by York boxing legend Henry Wharton, who fought for world titles three times during his own professional career, at Henry’s Gym in Acomb.

Harker, Wilson and Benka will all compete in four-round contests on the Frank Duffin Promotions show on Saturday, October 16.

Super-featherweight Harker will be hoping to finish the night in Greater Manchester with a winning record as a professional.

The 24-year-old fell to a narrow points defeat to 85-bout veteran Brett Fidoe on his debut back in June in Sheffield.

But he quickly recovered to seal a comprehensive victory on the referee’s scorecard against Luke Fash just weeks later.

Wilson enters the ring for the first time as a professional, having seen multiple proposed debut dates fall through amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Wharton protege won a pair of Yorkshire titles as an amateur and will be hoping for similar success in the paid ranks.

Poland-born Benka is seeking a third straight win next month, following wins over MJ Hall and Genadij Krajevskij in his first two contests.

The welterweight has yet to lose a round since making his pro debut just under three months ago.

Magill will also be eager to maintain his unbeaten start, having comfortably seen off ex-Davey opponent Arrowsmith in his May debut.

The three fighters based out of the York gym have yet to have their opponents announced.

The show also features fellow prospects Omar Dusary, Nathan Cawood, Jabran Bilal, Reece MacMillan, Ebony Carlin and Callum Simpson.
