MICKY CUMMINS is pleased that York City will be kicking off their FA Cup campaign at home - and aware that their opponents will be coming with nothing to lose.

The Minstermen have been pitted against Step 4 outfit Hebburn Town in the second round qualifying of the Cup at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday, September 18 (3pm).

City had an entertaining win over Farsley Celtic at Monks Cross last weekend, and will be hoping to build up a head of steam going into the Cup.

Hebburn play in the Northern Premier League east division, alongside the likes of local sides Tadcaster Albion and Pickering Town. They were one of three teams from last season's Northern League premier division (Step 5) to be granted accession to the next step up under the FA's restructure of the National League System.

They won the 2019/20 FA Vase final - played in May of this year - 3-2 against Consett, building on a successful, if truncated, 2020/21 campaign, when they finished top of the Northern League with 11 wins from 12 games.

“Firstly, it’s a home draw so we’re happy about that," assistant boss Cummins said.

“Hebburn is a club we know from our time in the North East. We know a couple of their players who we had at Gateshead.

“They went to the Vase final last year and won it.

“It’s a good, well-run club. They’ll enjoy their day out. They’ll bring a fair few.

“But ultimately, it’s an opportunity for us to carry on with our momentum.

“It’s a fantastic surrounding to play football in.

“(Hebburn) have had two or three rounds by now and it’s an opportunity for them. We’re probably one of the biggest clubs in this round.

“They’re on a hiding to nothing, they can come and try to enjoy themselves and not play under any pressure.

“It will be nice for them to experience a lovely stadium."
