YORK City Knights loanee Corey Johnson has been recalled by Leeds Rhinos.

Johnson returned to rugby league in July to sign for former club Leeds, after retiring last year, and immediately joined York on loan until the end of the season.

Since then, the 20-year-old has played six times for James Ford's side, appearing in every game possible during his loan stint.

He started his first match as an interchange but has since been used as a starting half-back and has formed a partnership with Matty Marsh over recent weeks.

Johnson returns to the Betfred Super League giants ahead of crunch matches against St Helens and Hull Kingston Rovers, with the Rhinos hoping to seal their spot in the play-offs.

Reflecting on his time with York, Johnson told Leeds' YouTube channel: "It was class. Fordy is a very good coach, all the boys were very welcoming and I really enjoyed it up there.

"I've had a lot of opportunities up there to get minutes and play. York was a really good place for me to start developing and learning my trade again."
