YORK City have signed former Stoke City defender Henry Nash following his release from the Sky Bet Championship club.

The 18-year-old departed the Potters in the summer and links up with York amid the club's difficulties with injuries, particularly in defence.

The teenager can play at right back, centre back or in central midfield.

The versatile youngster has signed a "non-contract" with the club, York City manager Steve Watson explained.

“We wanted to give him a chance at a club as he’s been released from Stoke," he said.

“He’s trained with us for a couple of days and he can play right back or right centre midfield.

"But we’ve only had him in for a couple of days and he is a young lad."

“It gives him the ability for him to play for us, if he gets that far and he impresses us enough that we think that we can go down that route," Watson said when asked about his contractual situation.

“Also, it gives the lad a chance to come to the club and train at very little cost to us. It’s a great chance for him.”

Having last week loaned in Jaden Charles from Mansfield Town and now brought in Nash, Watson does not envisage any more players joining the club through the season.

When asked if there was any more scope for signings through the season, Watson replied: “Not really, no. On a one-month basis, we were able to do Jaden.

“Apart from that, we’ve got what we’ve got. We knew that at the start of the season, so I’m not complaining about that.”
