TADCASTER Albion have been knocked out of the FA Cup at the preliminary round stage after a last-minute penalty saw Newton Aycliffe progress as 2-1 winners at the Global Stadium.

Despite Newton Aycliffe playing in the Northern League division one, a tier below Tadcaster, there was very little between the two sides throughout the game.

That was evident from the early stages when Albion goalkeeper Harrison Davison-Hale sprinted out of his box and was able to thwart Sonni Coleman after just two minutes.

At the other end, Tadcaster central defender Joe Wilkinson almost headed his side in front from a corner, only to see the effort cleared off the line.

Albion had another strong chance to put themselves in front when Marco Basic pulled the ball back to Simon Russell, whose shot to hit the upright and bounced straight into the arms of goalkeeper Adam Pickford.

At the midpoint of the first half, Russell was again denied when his effort was blocked some 12 yards out and Donald Chimalilo’s first run at defence was similarly dealt with albeit at even closer range.

Chimalilo was again in the thick of the action after crossing for Junayd Cassius-Gill, though the striker could not get on the end of his pinpoint delivery.

Despite the hosts' pressure, with five minutes remaining until the interval, the Albion defence failed to close down a solo run by Joe Ferguson who smashed the ball from 10 yards out into the back of the net.

The Brewers were stirred into action by that goal, with Cassius-Gill heading wide and then Basic drawing a tremendous save from Pickford thanks to his 25-yard strike.

Tadcaster though would go into the half-time a goal behind and with the wet weather worsening, the conditions did not look ideal for a goal-fest after the break.

Paul Quinn's side were creating chances but failing to take them. Corey Roper's crossed free-kick was calling out for a finish which did not arrive.

Then, Eddie Church saw an effort cleared after a neat solo run.

After two strong stops from Davison-Hale, Roper this time tried his luck himself from a free-kick - his 25-yard thunderbolt inching fractionally wide.

Finally, on 73 minutes, Tadcaster managed to break the deadlock and it stemmed from a piece of magic from Chimalilo.

He collected the ball some 25 yards out, rounded two defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top of the far corner of the net.

By now, Tadcaster were well on top. Church turned and shot over the bar and Chimalilo nearly doubled his personal tally when hitting the side netting.

But as the game entered its four minutes of added time, Newton broke from defence and midfielder Romario Vieira tripped his man in the box, with the referee immediately pointing to the spot.

The visitors' Jake Pittington stepped up and found the back of the net from 12 yard out to effectively win the game for his side.

Elsewhere, Pickering Town were also dumped out of the FA Cup after being thrashed 7-0 away to fellow Pitching In Northern Premier League east side Marske United at Mount Pleasant.

Just three minutes were on the clock when Kevin Burgess put Marske ahead. Adam Boyes and Matty Tymon added to the first-half lead before the former hit a further four goals in the second half.
