THE Betfred Challenge Cup final and AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final will be staged at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next year.

The two finals will be staged at the 62,850-seater stadium, which opened in 2019, on Saturday, May 28 before the competitions return to Wembley Stadium in 2023.

It will be the first time rugby league is played at the ground - the third largest football stadium in England - after the cancellation of the 2020 Ashes Series Test match amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) explained that Wembley was unavailable for May, an earlier place than usual for the final in the rugby league calendar.

The governing body also stated that they planned to reintroduce community clubs to the cup, which was not possible this year due to the pandemic.

Elsewhere, the RFL announced a two-year extension to Betfred’s partnership with the men’s, women’s and wheelchair Challenge Cups.

The venues for the 2022 women's and wheelchair finals will be confirmed later this year.
