YORKSHIRE had to settle for a one-point No Result against Nottinghamshire at York, but they remain firmly in the hunt for knockout qualification in the Royal London Cup.

The Vikings have six points from as many games ahead of their final two Group B fixtures against Derbyshire at Chesterfield on Sunday and Glamorgan at Cardiff on Thursday.

Notts also have six points from six and occupy third place in the table - the final knockout berth. Glamorgan and Somerset lead the way on eight points.

While it is not certain, the likelihood is that Yorkshire will have to win their final two games to have a chance of qualifying for the knockouts.

Only 33 overs were possible at Clifton Park, with Notts reaching 185-5 when rain hit for the second time at 2.30pm.

Had Yorkshire chased a 10-over target later in the day, they would have needed 94. But the match was abandoned shortly after 5pm.

Both sides had periods of dominance, with Mat Pillans claiming an excellent 4-26 from six overs and Josh Sullivan striking once on first-team debut.

Notts had flown out of the blocks to reach 146-0 in the 24th over thanks to openers Ben Slater and Sol Budinger, who went on to make 74 and 71 respectively.

But the Outlaws slipped badly, losing five wickets for 19 runs inside six overs.

While Slater hit 10 fours, Budinger hit seven added to a quartet of sixes, including one straight down the ground off Sullivan’s leg-spin to get him to his fifty off 44 balls.

At that stage, Notts were on for an imposing total in a game initially reduced to 41 overs per side following 80 minutes of rain from 11.20am with the score at 25-0 after 4.5.

Slater, off 58 balls, and Budinger both reached half-centuries in the 17th over as Notts made it to 104-0.

But South African overseas fast bowler Pillans dragged things back superbly before Sullivan, 21, had Liam Patterson-White lbw sweeping.

Pillans made the initial breakthrough in the 24th when he had Budinger caught behind off a top-edged pull before getting Slater in similar fashion in the 26th. Slater was caught at long-leg.

Then, next ball, he had captain Peter Trego caught behind for one.

And when Lyndon James clipped him to mid-wicket, Notts were 158-4 in the 28th.

That became 165-5 after 29 when Sullivan struck, meaning Notts had lost 5-19.

Pillans had been left out of the team for Tuesday’s win against Warwickshire here, but he was reinstated following the back injury suffered by compatriot Duanne Olivier whilst bowling in the same game.

Matt Montgomery was unbeaten on 20, while Sullivan encouraged with 1-43 from eight overs.

As players took lunch having left the field at 2.30pm, they - along with staff, media and members of the public - were forced into the car park for 15 minutes by a fire alarm.

That turned out to be a false alarm, but Yorkshire’s knockout hopes are yet to be extinguished.
