YORK City have announced the signings of midfield pair Sam Fielding and Harrison Hopper after successful trial periods with the club.

Both players featured throughout pre-season and have impressed manager Steve Watson while in training with the Minstermen.

Fielding, now 22, progressed through the youth academy at York City before making a two first team appearances as a teenager during the 2016/17 season.

He was snapped up by Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley in 2017 and spent three years at Oakwell, though he did make an appearance for the Tykes' first-team.

Fielding spent last year with Sky Bet League Two Salford City, where regular football was also limited, but he did feature in the run to the EFL Trophy victory.

Fielding can operate as both a centre half and holding midfielder.

20-year-old midfielder Hopper, who was born in Camden and raised in York, progressed through Rochdale’s academy.

He made two first-team appearances in Sky Bet League Two and the EFL Trophy before joining Pitching In Northern Premier League side Colne on loan last year.

Both players are available for selection for Tuesday night's friendly match against Ossett United (7pm) at the Ingfield Stadium.

Both moves are subject to FA and National League approval.

The warm-up match will York's penultimate game before the start of their Vanarama National League North season against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, August 14 (3pm).

Before that, for the second pre-season in a row, City make the trip to Meadow Lane to face National League outfit Notts County on Saturday, August 8 (3pm).
