YORK City Past Players have raised more than £3,500 for Headway with their annual charity golf day.

At Pike Hills Golf Course last Thursday, 180 golfers competed in the sunshine.

More than 30 former City stars turned out along with many supporters and local businesses in support of brain injury association Headway, a charity chosen by recently retired City defender Daniel Parslow.

The winning team on the day, with 94 stableford points, was the 'Class of ‘90' consisting of captain Ian Helliwell, Steve Tutill, Ray Warburton and Chris Marples, all of whom played for the club in the 1990/91 season.

Coming a close second with 93 points were 'The Slobs' (St Lawrence’s Old Boys) and in third place with 91 points were 'The Black Knights'.

Individual prizes were up for grabs as well. Former City commercial manager Chris Pegg landed the prize for 'nearest the pin' - a Volvo car for the weekend.

'Longest drive' went to Jim Batt and 'nearest the line' went to Match of the Day commentator and City fan, Guy Mowbray with an inch-perfect drive.

The 18 holes were sponsored by businesses or individuals and named after former York City players from different eras, notably Barry Jackson (hole five), Arthur Bottom (hole eight) and Keith Walwyn (hole nine), while successful teams from the past were scattered around the course – 'Boys of '74', The Happy Wanderers and the 'Champions and Centurions of 1983/84'.
