YORK Acorn completed the double over Lock Lane with a dramatic last-minute try from Jordan Potter securing the victory in the National Conference League.

The win sees Acorn move up to third in League G, level on win percentage with local rivals Heworth ARLFC.

Acorn made a rapid start to the game as two former York City Knights players combined for the first try.

Ash Robson bounced off four would-be tacklers before releasing Matt Chilton to romp home from 40 metres out down the right channel.

Anthony Chilton converted for a 6-0 lead.

The game returned to an arm wrestle which Lock Lane had the upper hand in and they almost scored but for a tackle by Antony Chilton.

But the half-back laid on too long in the tackle and was sent to the sin-bin for a professional foul.

Two plays later, Tom Sowerby found space on the right to finish an unconverted try.

And the Lane took further advantage of their numerical advantage just three minutes later.

Half-back Bailey O'Connor shaped a wide pass before dummying his way under the posts. Thomas Egan's conversion put Lock Lane 10-6 ahead.

The Castleford side soon found themselves to be down on numbers when prop forward Rob Firth was shown a yellow card.

Acorn were unable to capitalise against 12 men and they went in behind at the break, though they could have trailed further had Egan scored his penalty goal attempt.

The hosts started brightly after the interval and their cause was aided when Firth was sent off for a kick by the referee, who showed no hesitation in going to his back pocket.

York got themselves over the line when interchange Eddie Prescott crashed in, but it was chalked off, with the referee unable to see the grounding.

Fortunately for Acorn, they were in again just minutes later when Lewis Lord broke through the middle, threw a speculative pass right which Nick Speck reacted quickest to before grounding.

Antony Chilton conversion's put Acorn back in front however an Egan penalty goal levelled the scores at 12-12 with 10 minutes to go.

Both sides could sense a dramatic finale and were looking to set up drop goal attempts, as seen in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

And, with three minutes remaining, O'Connor grabbed what seemed a decisive one-pointer.

But, Matt Chilton won the resulting kick-off and Acorn marched upfield. In good field position, Antony Chilton turned down the drop goal, ran at the line and offloaded for Potter's match winner.

Antony Chilton missed the kick but it mattered little to the final result.
