FOUR professionals from Henry Wharton’s stable of boxers have been given dates for their returns to the ring.

York boxing legend and trainer Wharton will get his first chance to see super lightweight Hughie Wilson in action as a professional on August 21 at the Oldham Leisure Centre.

Wilson announced his intentions to move over into the paid ranks over a year ago, but has had to wait patiently in the gym for his debut amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Next week's easing of restrictions means that small hall boxing shows will be able to resume at their normal levels for the first time since pre-pandemic.

Boxing cards at small hall level have not been able to run given the lack of crowds able to attend indoor events.

Doncaster-born Wilson decided to move gyms to train with former three-time world title challenger Wharton out of his Acomb-based Henry's Gym as a 16-year-old.

He had a promising career as an amateur, winning a pair of Yorkshire titles, and will be hoping for similar success as a professional.

Wharton-trained pair Rafal Benka and John Patrick Harker will both appear on a September 3 show at the Municipal Hall in Colne.

Benka won his first pro bout via a technical decision over MJ Hall last month, while Harker bounced back from his debut defeat to Brett Fidoe by beating Luke Fash on points earlier in July.

Middleweight Rob Magill will be aiming to maintain his 100 per winning start when he returns on September 18 at the Bradford Hotel (formerly known as the Norfolk Gardens Hotel).

Magill eased to a 40-36 points victory on his maiden showing as a professional against the Stockport-born veteran Dale Arrowsmith.

Wilson, Benka, Harker and Magill will all compete in four-round fights and their opponents have yet to be announced.
