SELBY Town kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 7-3 victory over FC Humber United at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium, writes Phil Dearnley.

Selby were the first team to settle into the contest and George Brown, Flynn McNaughton and Harry Clapham were all causing Humber problems early on.

Eventually, McNaughton and Clapham combined for the speedy latter to open the scoring.

Moments later, Clapham was dragged to the ground and Dan Davison met the subsequent free-kick with a powerful header home.

Selby were well on top at this stage and duly scored a third goal as debutant Gracjan Klimczak finished the first of his three goals.

Humber kept on plugging away and did get themselves on the scoresheet when Lewis Blackwell rifled in from a corner kick.

But Selby's three-goal advantage was soon restored when Clapham, also on debut, headed in his brace.

Almost immediately, Klimczak, not wanting to be outshone by his fellow forward debutant, notched in his second of the match.

There was a touch of fortune as Humber got on the scoreboard again. Goalkeeper Dylan Parkin claimed a high ball and, despite a mid-air collision which United profited from, the referee saw nothing wrong with the incident.

Before the break, there remained enough time for Selby’s sixth, as a slick move involving McNaughton and Clapham saw Klimczak seal his hat-trick.

It did not take long after the restart for town to get on the goal trail again. This time it was a fizzing shot from McNaughton that flew into the back of the net.

With the game clearly won, manager Christian Fox elected to make all of his substitutes, which interrupted Town's attacking flow and allowed the opposition to get on top.

It was almost inevitable that Humber would score, and sure enough a long range shot from Szymon Czubika rocketed into the net as a consolation.

Selby are back in action on Tuesday evening against Knaresborough Town (7.30pm) at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.
